Rule of Thirds
The Rule of Thirds is a guideline for composition which breaks down an image into 9 parts. This enables you to place your key elements of your composition and that the composition is more balanced and the viewers will be more interacted with it naturally.
In this image the head of the subject has purposely been placed on one of the intersecting points- especially when his eyes which are a natural point of focus for a portrait. His tie and flower also take up a secondary point of interest.
Web 2.0

Preliminary Magazine Cover
This is my preliminary magazine cover with a mid shot of two pupils engaging with each other as my main idea to get across was the friendlessness within the pupils. This photograph was taken at an angle not knowing that this could be the image that I would use. I have used the right third rule with minimal kickers. My main masthead is in red and is masculine. The letter S has been put in blue and the main cover line overlaps my image. I have made it constant by sticking to the 3 colours and font styles. I have also tried making the background out of focus so the main pupils stand out.
Preliminary Flat Plan
This is one of my flat plans for my Magazine. If I was to choose this flat plan I would have had to make everything accurate. This is because it is not that busy so the readers would be able to spot the mistakes easily and wouldn't be too convenient. This plan is very simple however attractive as all the wording would be around the main anchor which would be situated right in the middle. The masthead is just above the main image (anchor). The masthead is big and bold and should approximately take a third of the page. This type of magazine would have the letter O layout as the text is all around.

Preliminary Task Intro
In this preliminary task I achieve to make the best looking and eye catching magazine for Heston sixth formers. Especially for the people who have joined recently. Within this task we have been required to use a mid-shot of a student for the front page and to use Photoshop to help us manipulate images in certain ways.
So far I have come up with two ideas based on Heston School. As this building and people are new to me I decided to keep this magazine more close to me and do it on new sixth formers. My target audience is clearly young adults aged between16-19. Another reason I choose this specific age group is because I would know what their expectations would be as I also fit in this age range.
In brief my overall magazine will be attention-grabbing with bold colours however it will be consistent. I will make sure that the images are suitable and keep the front page simple. This magazine will have a gloss finish to it and it would have catchy phrases. The purpose of this publication is to make new sixth formers confident in where they are as they have made a right choice. If this was a real magazine it would be distributed every year for every new sixth formers. The most suitable place to distribute would be at the school reception and in the school library. I expect to attract my audience by using powerful teasers and catchy masthead so it would grab there attention instantly.
To reach my full inventive potential I would experiment with many types of software’s such as Photoshop and fireworks. I would also take as many photographs as possible in different ways for unique images. As a result I want my magazine to be different and exclusive.
